The Gnome Home began as a little arts and craft shop in 1985.
It is owned an operated by me, Linda G. Comando, an artist and crafter.
Although, "arts and crafts" is one of my loves, my first love is my family. I was fortunate to have been able to spend many years at home with my children as they were growing up. There were five children altogether. There was a sixteen year difference from the oldest to the youngest. Many rainy afternoons were spent crafting, drawing, and "making" with the children.
The mission of The Gnome Home is to give mothers with young children the opportunity to be able to stay home and enjoy their families, create works of art and crafts, and be able to have an income from their creations. The Gnome Home is not just for young mothers, we invite all crafters and artists, men and women, young and old to be part of The Gnome Home.
Most of us, like myself, who make handcrafted items, know the many hours it takes to complete a project, so we don't always have "enough stuff" to fill a store, and we go to the craft shows and flea markets. I did this for years and got tired of packing, carting, unpacking... and so on! So, I started my Gnome Home in 1985 and filled in the gaps with "chatkas", notions and industrial made items - not quite the thing I wanted- but it served the purpose for years!
Now as the years have gone by and the children have grown, The Gnome Home is more of a reality of the dream I always wanted it to be.
After going to college and learning web design I realized that I no longer am restricted to a little cabin to display my arts and crafts and sell my little gifts and notions, but that I could reach out and make The Gnome Home available to anyone who uses a computer.
My creative mind did not sleep. Not only could I put my few handcrafted items up on the internet, but I could do the same for other crafters who have made items that they want to sell and need more than the "flea market" or "craft sale" outlet to sell their creations.
This is how The Gnome Home works. If you are a crafter and would like to sell your product from The Gnome Home site, send us an at thegnomehome@yahoo.com and we will send you information on how you can sell your products over the internet without investing any money other than what you usually do to pay for your craft supplies.
This is not a "get rich quick" scheme. It is just a simple, no strings attached way for a crafter/artist to show their creations on the internet.
